What is Business Continuity and BCP?
Business Continuity Planning (BCP) is an interdisciplinary concept used to create and validate a practiced logistical plan for how an organization will recover and restore partially or completely interrupted critical function(s) within a predetermined time after a disaster or extended disruption
Premier have recognised the increasing importance of Business Continuity for their clients, protecting their business interests should an unexpected event befall their premises or infrastructure.
Uniquely placed, both technically and logistically, Premier have produced a range of solutions to meet your every need.
Three levels of Business Continuity
- Offsite Data Storage
Data stored offsite that can be recovered easily when your primary data is inaccessible
- High Availability
Localised equipment or servers that can take over the roles normally undertaken by a primary member of the infrastructure, available when physical hardware fails
- Offsite Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
A combination of offsite data storage or replication, combined with physical or virtual equipment available to continue the business activity
Possible causes of interruption to business
Fire - Flood - Theft - Power Failure - Limited or No Access - Human Error - Equipment Failure
The likelihood of a natural or environmental disaster is remote to say the least, the probability of other interruptions to business that may escalate into a business disaster are far greater. Top of the list has to be equipment failure, with human error a close second, Fire, Flood and limited access are probably less likely although possible. When considering a business continuity plan all of these scenarios should be at least discussed and solutions proposed.
Length and Cost of Business Disruption
A Business Continuity Plan needs to be practical and cost effective, calculated upon length of downtime, and cost to the business. It would seem impractical to deliver a £100,000 disaster recovery solution to a company that would retain it's customers and not lose any business should a 2 day disruption occur. However to provide an offsite Data Storage only solution for a company that may well lose £18,000 per hour if communications fail and access to the premises is unavailable is also incorrect.
Premier are able to assist companies with their Business Continuity Plan, providing a number of solutions that can fulfil all Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Requirements.
